Melvin expresses disappointment after “barely touching the opposition’s starting lineup”
San Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin was disappointed.
In an interview after the Padres dropped the final game of their three-game series against the Detroit Tigers, 1-3, at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, USA, on Thursday (April 24), Melvin reflected on the game.온라인바카라
“We had some disappointing at-bats against their starting pitcher,” he said, criticizing the offense’s inability to capitalize on Detroit starter Alex Paedo (six innings, one run, four hits, two walks, no strikeouts).
“You have to give him some credit for getting our hitters out, but we didn’t do anything against him. I think we should have had a better approach and put more pressure on him,” he said.
Down 0-3, San Diego scored a run off reliever Beau Briskey in the seventh and had a chance to tie the game in the ninth, stranding two runners on base against closer Alex Lane.
Melvin said, “Our hitting was better down the stretch and against the other pitchers. I don’t know what it was, but it wasn’t the same as it was earlier in the game,” Melvin said.
“Today was a very important game for us. We needed to show a little more spark. When you’re not hitting, it doesn’t look good, and I think we should have done more damage.”
“It wasn’t as good as we’ve seen lately,” he said of starter Joe Musgrove, who allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings, but added, “I think three runs in six innings would have given us a chance to win with the way our hitters have been swinging lately.” Once again, the offense failed to do its part.
San Diego concluded its 10-game East Coast road trip with a 5-5 record. With one doubleheader and two rain delays, it was a challenging schedule, and you can’t fault the Padres for finishing with a five-game winning percentage.
“It wasn’t about the road trip, it wasn’t about the series, it was about winning today,” Melvin said. “This was a very important game for us. No matter what, if we had won today, we would have looked a lot better than if we had lost today,” he said, expressing his strong disappointment in not winning the game.
