Korean baseball team LG has set its sights on Choi Won-tae as the final piece of the puzzle to win its first Korean Series title in 29 years.

On the morning of the 29th of last month, Choi Won-tae was preparing for his start like any other day when he received a phone call.

After learning that he had been traded to LG, Choi quickly packed his bags and headed to Jamsil Stadium.

He was warmly welcomed by LG head coach Yeom Kyung-yup, who was waiting for him.

“Our savior is here. What’s the goal? Win the championship. (LG) has good middle (pitchers) and good hitting, so don’t try to score too many runs.”

The day after the trade, Choi Won-tae, the starter, wore a striped uniform instead of the purple one he had worn since his debut in 2015.

Choi, who said he didn’t feel out of place because it was similar to his Seoul High uniform, pitched six scoreless innings to lead LG to a big win.

Manager Yeom Kyung-yeop, who needed a stable domestic starting pitcher as the final piece of the puzzle for his team’s first Korean Series title in 29 years, was all smiles, and LG veteran Kim Hyun-soo pledged his full support.

“(Kim) Hyun-soo gave me (baseball) supplies and said if I pitch well, he’ll keep giving them to me, so I’m trying to pitch hard and get a lot.”

Choi Won-tae says he’s gotten more attention lately than when he was drafted by the Heroes.
