‘Full control + bold pitching’ Hyun-jin Ryu holds TEX hitters scoreless through 2 innings…cruises to 4 wins
The “Korean Monster” Ryu Hyun-jin, 36, is cruising to his second win of the season against the Texas Rangers’ hard-hitting lineup.
Ryu Hyun-jin pitched a two-hit shutout with no walks and no hits through the first two innings of the 2023 Major League Baseball home game against the Texas Rangers at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Wednesday (June 13).먹튀검증
Ryu walked Texas leadoff hitter Marcus Semien with one pitch in the first inning. He easily got the first out of the inning by inducing a foul pop fly to the first baseman with a 138-mph sinker.
He fought a full count against No. 2 hitter Corey Seager and got him to ground into a double play. He drove a 145-mph fastball to the body, taking Seeger’s timing off and sending him back to the dugout.
Against No. 3 hitter Robbie Grossman, the pitch was suddenly shaky. A 108-mph fastball in the first inning and a 145-mph fastball in the second for two strikes, but Grossman’s bat didn’t come up on pitches three, four and five. Ryu then opted to go for the deciding pitch, a 124 mph changeup, but was called for a ball and gave up the first run of the game.
But Ryu quickly settled down. He got the next batter, Mitch Garber, to hit a foul pop fly to the catcher. With one strike, he threw a 142-mph fastball up and away to end the inning.
Ryu continued his dominance in the top of the second. He got leadoff hitter Yona Haim to ground out to third base. Despite the sharp pitch, Toronto third baseman Cavan Biggio made a solid defensive play.
With a lighter shoulder, Ryu got Nate Lowe to fly out to left field to extend the count. On a two-pitch, two-strike at-bat, the fifth pitch, a 145-mph fastball, was aggressively placed to the body.
Two batters later, Ryu sent Ezequiel Duran back to the dugout. On a two-ball, two-strike pitch, Ryu took away his timing with a 104-mph slow curveball. Ryu’s command of his pitches was on full display.
In the top of the third inning, with the Texas offense underway, Toronto and Texas were tied 0-0. Texas starter Max Scherzer was also pitching well alongside Ryu.
Scherzer, born in 1984, is a legend in the big leagues with 213 career wins. This season, he hasn’t been bad either, going 12-6 with a 3.87 ERA in 27 games.
