The largest number of Korean referees in history will participate in the Women’s World Cup to be held in July.

The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced the list of referees for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand on the 9th. Oh Hyeon-jeong (35), Kim Yu-jeong (34, Lee Sang-ju), Kim Gyeong-min (43), Lee Seul-gi (43), and Park Mi-suk (40, Sang-soo referee), five Korean referees were named.

This is the first time that five Korean referees participate in the Women’s World Cup at once. Up until now, two were the most in one tournament. For the 2003 World Cup, referee Lim Eun-ju and Choi Su-jin were selected as assistant referees, for the 2011 World Cup, referee Cha Seong-mi and Kim Gyeong-min were selected as assistant referees, and for the 2019 World Cup, Kim Gyeong-min and Lee Seul-gi were selected as assistant referees.

In terms of the number of judges by country participating in this World Cup, Korea is tied for second with Canada. The United States has the most with a total of 6, but the number of field judges (main and assistant referees) is 5, the same as Korea, and one additional VAR referee participates.

In Canada, 5 people like us participate, but there are 3 field judges. In addition, 4 players from Australia, the host country, and 3 players from Japan, a strong player in women’s soccer, will participate.

Meanwhile, a total of 107 referees participate in this Women’s World Cup. There are 33 referees, 56 assistant referees and 18 VAR referees.

The referees will attend the referee seminar hosted by FIFA from the 30th to the 2nd of next month to prepare in earnest.

This is the first time referee Oh Hyeon-jung has participated in a FIFA tournament since participating in the 2016 Women’s U-17 World Cup. Following her 2017 Korea Football Association Women’s Referee of the Year Award, from 2019 she was named Women’s Special Referee for four consecutive years. She also appeared as a referee in the TV entertainment program ‘Goal Hitters’. 

Referee Kim Yoo-jung took part in her Women’s U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica last year, and her first Women’s World Cup was also her first. In 2019 she received the Korea Football Association Female Referee of the Year Award. She gained attention last year when she officiated the final of the prestigious Algarve Cup, a women’s international friendly. 토토사이트

Assistant referee Kim Gyeong-min participates in the 5th consecutive Women’s World Cup since the 2007 tournament in China. Referee Kim Kyung-min is the first Korean soccer player to participate in the World Cup five times, including male and female players, coaches and referees. She is also being put into K-League 2 matches.

Assistant referee Lee Seul-gi will go out for the second time in a row following the 2019 World Cup in France. She is a veteran of seven appearances in FIFA competitions, including the Women’s U-20 World Cup and U-17 World Cup.

Assistant referee Park Mi-sook is currently refereeing in Australia. She was the first to be named on the World Cup referee list. Last year she participated in the Costa Rica U-20 World Cup, and she also referees in men’s professional football in Australia.
